Korea National Open University (KNOU) will host the 2020 International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) Leadership Summit in Seoul, South Korea, from November 25-27 2020 as announced during the opening day of the recently concluded 28th International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) World Conference at the Dublin Convention Centre, Ireland.
As reported on their website, ICDE is delighted to announce that the ICDE Leadership Summit will be held in Seoul, South Korea since the country is known for its high regard to education. According to Morten Flate Paulsen, Acting Secretary General of ICDE, everyone can learn from South Korea as they give high priority to education. Paulsen said, “this [prioritizing education] can be reflected in the Ministry of Education being given a budget of US$77 billion, four times what it was in 2000 and South Korean citizens being one of the most highly educated populations in the world”.
Ryu Su Noh, President of KNOU, expressed his gratitude to be given the opportunity to host the event and looks forward to hosting an estimated 300 Presidents, Vice Chancellors, Rectors, experts, policy-makers, academic decision-makers and technology providers involved in the field of online learning from Africa, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America, Latin America and the Caribbean who will converge in Seoul for this annual summit on online learning. He also said “ICDE has a number of South Korean higher education institutions among its membership. KNOU will together with them provide a highly interactive and dynamic forum for knowledge exchange. Lifelong learning, we must remember applies also to the educators.”
