In today’s dynamic landscape, digital literacy and proficiency in artificial intelligence (AI) are crucial for global competitiveness and societal advancement. Educating individuals in these domains not only prepares them for future challenges but also empowers them to make substantial contributions to technological innovation and economic progress.
Ho Chi Minh City Open University (HCMCOU) proudly participated in the 2024 UNESCO-UNITWIN Training Program hosted by Korea National Open University (KNOU) in Seoul, South Korea from June 30 to July 10, 2024. Focused on Digital Literacy for e-Learning, this program proved transformative, aiming to equip educators and learners alike with essential digital skills.
The initiative brought together representatives from several UNESCO-UNITWIN Network member institutions, including Ho Chi Minh City Open University (Vietnam), Hanoi Open University (Vietnam), Tribhuvan University (Nepal), Nepal Open University (Nepal), Open University Malaysia (Malaysia), and Mongolian University of Science and Technology (Mongolia). Collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds who shared a common goal of enhancing digital literacy in higher education was inspiring.
Dr. Phan Thi Ngoc Thanh and Ms. Doan Ho Dan Tam from HCMCOU participated actively in the program and found immense value during the training workshop. They emphasized how the acquired knowledge and skills will significantly benefit HCMCOU in terms of enhancing the capacity to deliver cutting-edge digital literacy education to their students.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum covering a range of topics such as Scratch, Microbit, App Inventor, Dash Robot, and Python. These sessions deepened their understanding of contemporary digital tools and programming languages, offering practical insights into integrating these technologies into teaching practices. The hands-on workshops and discussions were particularly enriching, enabling them to explore innovative approaches to digital education and develop new strategies for engaging students in an online learning environment.
KNOU’s exemplary hosting and dedicated instructors played a pivotal role in the participants’ learning journey. Their commitment to fostering digital literacy among educators is commendable and has inspired the trainees to advocate further for technology-enhanced learning at HCMCOU.
In conclusion, 2024 UNESCO-UNITWIN training program was not merely a training event but also a pivotal opportunity for HCMCOU and other participating institutions to collaborate, innovate, and lead in digital education to help shaping a brighter future for global education.
