Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU), India has been ranked 2nd by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Education, GoI under the “Open University” category for the year 2024. The assessment has been made in different parameters like teaching-learning and resources (TLR), research /professional practices (RPP), graduate outcomes (GO), outreach/ inclusivity (OI) etc.
12B Status:
The University Grants Commission (UGC), India has accorded the status of section 12B of the UGC Act 1956 as a result the university has become eligible to get financial assistance from central agencies under different heads specially for promoting research activities. The faculties may now apply for major/ minor research funds from the UGC like other regular universities in India. The NET-JRF candidates may also pursue their Ph.D from NSOU with the fellowship of UGC etc.

UGC list of HEIs for Collaborative MOU:
The UGC has included the NSOU in the list of recognized Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in India which can enter into MOU with other foreign universities for dual degree programme/ twinning programmes subject to fulfilment of other conditions.
